Bread Dough Ornaments
A craft recipe for decorations, not for eating.
Ingredients
- 2 parts flour
- 1 part salt
- 1 part water
- A few drops of dish detergent
- Paper clips
- Food coloring (optional, to pre-color the dough)
- Beads for eyes or other bake-safe decorations (optional)
- Water-based paint, acrylic spray, and polyurethane, for finishing
Directions
- Put a few drops of dish detergent into the water, then combine all the ingredients. Knead until well mixed.
- Form into shapes, or roll and cut out with cookie cutters.
- Place a small paper clip into the top, leaving a little sticking out for the hanger. Add beads for eyes or anything else that is okay to bake.
- Bake at 325°F, 1/2 hour for every 1/4 inch of dough thickness. You can bake longer at a lower setting if you are afraid of browning the dough.
- After baking and cooling, paint with any water-based paint. Seal with acrylic spray and polyurethane.
